What once was love at first sight has now turned into silent resentment...Your sofas used to be the centrepiece of your living room, perfectly matching your carefully planned décor to create a beautiful ambiance.
To help you fall in love with your fabric sofas and chairs all over again we put together a comprehensive care guide covering some of the most common sources of stains and potential damage that can occur to your fabric furniture.
Because of the nature of the material it is made out of, fabric furniture tends to be more difficult to clean and maintain for a long period of time. Food stains, animal fur and bad smells can stick to your sofas or chairs and considerably shorten their lifespan.
Vacuum your sofas regularly
Keep your fabric furniture looking fresh and protect the material from dust damage and animal fur by vacuuming it regularly. This step is especially important if you have pets. Animal hair can be difficult to remove from fabric sofas without the help of a professional if it is allowed to build up.
Clean stains and spills as soon as they happen
Fresh stains are a lot easier to remove without damaging the fabric than stains that have dried up. The best thing to do is use a clean cloth to blot out as much of the stain as you can. Don't try to rub or scrub fresh spills as this will increase the chances of them settling into the upholstery fabric!
Clean your sofa and chair covers regularly
We recommend that you clean your fabric sofas at least twice a year in order to keep them in top shape for longer. If you can take the covers off and wash them in your washing machine make sure that you follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully.
Top Tip: put the covers back on the cushions of your sofas while they are still slightly damp. This will ensure that they will dry perfectly around the shape of your sofa for an optimum fit!
Keep away from direct sunlight
Sunlight is on of fabric's silent enemies. Leaving your fabric furniture in direct sunlight for a long period of time will cause the fabric to fade and lose colour. Try to keep the curtain pulled on bright, sunny days as much as possible when you're away from home. Your brightly coloured sofas and chairs will thank you!
Leave it to the pros
It's advisable to leave stubborn spots or dry spills to the professionals! They know exactly what products to use in order to remove difficult stains without damaging the fabric or causing discolouration. This step is especially important if taking the cushion covers off your sofa is impossible or if the arms or other areas of the sofa are stained. Professional cleaners will bring your sofas back to their former glory, save you the hassle and make your fabric furniture last much longer!
